 How old do you have to be to play the Virginia State Lottery?
In order to play the Virginia State Lottery you must be at least 18 years old.
 
 How long do I have until I must claim a prize I won?
On-line games (Powerball, Mega Millions, Win For Life, Cash 5, Pick 4 and Pick 3) must be claimed within 180 after the date of the drawing. For Scratch Tickets winnings have 180 days from the official end of the game to claim a prize.
 
 If I win the lottery can I remain anonymous when I claim my prize?
No, the Virginia state releases the winner's name, hometown and prize amount as public records. Winners also agree to allow their photo to be used for reasonable publicity.
 
 Will my winnings be taxed?
All Virginia winnings are subject to income tax. For prizes that are over $5,000 the lottery will withhold 25% for federal tax and 4% for state taxes. All prizes that are over $600 the lottery will issue a federal W2-G form to the winner.
 
 Where do I redeem a ticket that I have won on?
Tickets with prize amounts of $600 or less may be claimed at any Virginia Lottery retailer. Tickets with prizes greater than $600 must be claimed at one of the five Virginia's Lottery retailer offices. If your prize is $1,000,000 or more you should call the Virginia Lottery office to make an appointment to claim your prize.
 
 What else do I need to have if I am claiming lottery winnings?
If you are claiming a prize of $600 or more at a Lottery regional office you must bring your ticket along. If you have won a jackpot prize you must have with you photo identification as well as proof of your social security number .
